The Popularity of Wayang Sukuraga in Sukabumi

 Wayang Sukuraga is one of traditional arts in Sukabumi that combines fine art, puppets theater and literature. In fact, many people did not know that Sukabumi has its own Wayang and ironically Sukabumi people itself who do not know about their own wayang. As we know, the more globalization enters our country, the more we do not care about the local culture that we have. Therefore they will look an another foreign culture for them to learn. This essay will explain the things that effect on Wayang Sukuraga’s popularity in Sukabumi.

 This puppets was created by an artist named Fendi Sukuraga and has initially been performed to the public since 1997. Due to the modernization, most people prefer to watch a show that follows the era and they think that Wayang show are outdated. Beside of that, Wayang Sukuraga’s show in Sukabumi especially in Sukabumi City is very rare to see and to held.

 Because of that situation, it can effect on Wayang Sukuraga’s Popularity in Sukabumi become unpopular and still unrecognized by most of people in Sukabumi especially among the new generation. It can be hamper our country development because the development of our country is appropriated by the development of our local art and local custom.

 In conclusion, because of many kinds of situation such as globalization, modernization, and rareness of Wayang Sukuraga show it has an effect on Wayang Sukuraga’s popularity at most of people in Sukabumi especially among the new generation. So, it is important to keep our local art and local custom to be able to be sustainable.
