Local Arts in Sukabumi

    Sukabumi comes from the Sundanese word "Suka" which means happy, and "Bumen" which means to live in. With the cool and comfortable air, anyone who comes to Sukabumi will feel at home living there. Sukabumi is also an area that has various local arts. One of them is the Jipeng dance. 

Jipeng or Tanji Topeng, is a typical art that only exists in the area of ​​the Kesatuan Adat Banten Kidul, or what we know as Kasepuhan. One of them is still in Kasepuhan Sinarresmi, Sinarresmi Village, Cisolok District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. Generally, Tanji's appearance only shows the appearance of songs, occasionally accompanied by dances. In fact, there is a very important part in the Jipeng performance, there is a drama or a play that is entertaining and full of moral messages and ancestral teachings in the show. 

However, there are still people who doesn't even know what Jipeng dance is like and where does Jipeng dance come from. Even maybe, they never heard of the Jipeng dance. The importance of people having to know one of this local dances from Sukabumi is because in Tanji it is not only limited to music, Kasepuhan artists at that time also included elements of drama or theater, with humor or bodoran. But most importantly, behind it there are moral messages and teachings. Karuhun which was wrapped by the play (story) was delivered.

But sometime ago, because of Festival Geopark Ciletuh event which was enlivened by 5.853 people from various backgrounds such as students, university students and even the government. Jipeng dance got a world record and maybe will be recognized by the world. RHR Vice President Lia Mutisari announced the new world record at Paninjoan Field, Geopark Ciletuh, Sukabumi in 2018. Actually, only about 5.113 people registered as participants, but when the dancers started to dance the Jipeng Dance the public who attend also danced and because of that they were also part of the record breaking section.

Because this festival that is carries Sundanese culture is presented very attractively and high value, and the enthusiasm of public is also so high, Jipeng Dance can be increasingly recognized by the world!
